Maritsa van Luttikhuizen (1973)
Lives and works in Rotterdam
Maritsa van Luttikhuizen studied at the AKI, academy of fine arts (artEZ University of the Arts) in Enschede. After graduation she spent one year in Casablanca (Morocco) to paint. Her work was encouraged with a grant from the Artist Start Mondriaan Fund. In 2000, she moved to Rotterdam where she has since then she is active in different disciplines for several cultural organizations. She works as a painter, video journalist, photographer and curator. Lately, her main medium has been the drawing. Her images expose a nascent dreamworld, but still hold on to reality through figurative displays. Girls are a recurring theme in her drawings. With pencil and paper, she explores the body, emotions and mental state. Vulnerability versus potency. Her sometimes alienating images suggest an inner statement that invites the viewer to reflect.
